I am an engineer from India trying to understand how the GSM points system works, but every website explains it differently. I’m unsure how my age, work experience, qualifications and English scores translate into actual points. I’m worried about miscalculating my score and applying without being competitive. I need a clear and accurate way to calculate my GSM points.

The GSM(General Skilled Migration) points system can feel confusing at first, but it becomes much clearer when you break it into key components. As an Indian engineer, your total score is calculated based on age, English proficiency, education, work experience and additional factors. For example, if you are between 25–32 years old, you get 30 points, which is the highest for age. Your English test scores (like IELTS or PTE) can add 10–20 points, depending on your level (Competent, Proficient or Superior English).

Your educational qualification and work experience also play a major role. A recognized bachelor’s degree typically gives 15 points, while relevant work experience (in or outside Australia) can add up to 20 points depending on the number of years. On top of that, you can gain extra points through factors like state nomination, partner skills or studying in Australia. Most engineers aim for at least 65 points (minimum eligibility), but realistically, a competitive score is usually 75–85+ to receive an invitation.

At Rozario Enterprises, we often see applicants miscalculate their points—especially when it comes to assessing work experience or English scores correctly. Even a small mistake can affect your chances of getting an invitation. That’s why we recommend getting your profile properly evaluated. Our team helps you calculate an accurate GSM score, identify areas to improve and guide you on the best strategy to increase your chances of Australian PR.
