Can I apply for a GSM visa from India if I only have 2 years of work experience?

I currently have only two years of professional experience in my field and I’m worried this may not be enough for a GSM visa. Some sources say more experience is required, while others say it depends on occupation and points. I don’t want to delay my plans unnecessarily if I’m already eligible. I need expert advice specific to Indian applicants.

Yes, you can still apply for an Australian GSM (General Skilled Migration) visa from India even if you currently have only 2 years of work experience. The most important factor is whether you meet the overall eligibility criteria, not simply the number of years worked. According to Rozario Enterprises, GSM visas are primarily based on your occupation, skills assessment, English score, age, qualifications and total migration points.

For GSM visas such as Subclass 189, 190, and 491, you generally need:

* An occupation listed on Australia’s Skilled Occupation List
* A positive skills assessment
* Age below 45 years
* Competent English test results (IELTS/PTE)
* Minimum 65 migration points

Having only 2 years of experience does not automatically make you ineligible. However, there are two important things to understand:

1. Work experience affects your points score
In most GSM categories, overseas work experience points usually start from 3 years of skilled employment. With only 2 years, you may not receive work experience points yet, but you can still qualify if your total points reach the required threshold through other factors such as age, English proficiency, education, partner skills or state nomination.

2. Some occupations and assessing authorities have separate requirements
Certain professions — especially IT, engineering, trades or technical occupations — may require minimum experience for a positive skills assessment. In some cases, 1–2 years can be enough, while other occupations may expect 3 years or more depending on the assessing authority.

For Indian applicants, this means you should not delay your migration plans without first checking:

Your nominated occupation
Your current points score
Your skills assessment eligibility
Whether state nomination options are available

At Rozario Enterprises GSM Visa Services, our migration team carefully evaluates your profile and advises whether you are already eligible now or whether gaining additional experience would significantly improve your invitation chances. In many cases, applicants with only 2 years of experience can still proceed strategically instead of waiting unnecessarily.
