I am confused about how much money I need to show for my Australian student visa application. Different sources mention different amounts and I am unsure what is officially acceptable. I also want to know whether my parents’ income and bank savings can be used. Without clarity, I fear my visa could be refused.
For an Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500), Filipino students must usually show enough money to cover:
-
First 12 months of tuition fees
-
Living expenses for 12 months
-
Travel costs to Australia
The current minimum living expense requirement is AUD 29,710 for one student. In addition, you must add your first year’s tuition fee and around AUD 1,500–2,000 for airfare. For example, if your course tuition is AUD 25,000 per year, you should be prepared to show approximately AUD 56,000–57,000 in total funds.
Example:
-
Tuition fee: AUD 25,000
-
Living expenses: AUD 29,710
-
Travel cost: AUD 1,500
Total funds to show: about AUD 56,210
Yes, you may use your parents’ bank savings and income as proof of funds. Australian immigration accepts sponsorship from parents, provided you submit:
-
Your parents’ bank statements
-
Proof of regular income such as payslips, business documents, or tax returns
-
An affidavit or sponsorship letter stating they will support your studies
-
Your birth certificate to prove your relationship to them
Your parents’ savings should ideally have been in the account for at least 3 months, and any large recent deposits should be explained with supporting documents. Sudden unexplained deposits can cause visa concerns.
You may also qualify by showing your parents’ annual income instead of only bank savings. For a student applying alone, the parent or sponsor should generally have an annual income of at least AUD 87,856. If there are accompanying family members, the required annual income increases to about AUD 102,500.
As Rozario Enterprises, we usually advise Filipino students to keep a little extra beyond the minimum amount—around AUD 5,000 to 10,000 more—because stronger financial evidence helps reduce the chance of visa refusal.
