I want to support my living expenses while studying in Australia, but I am not sure about work restrictions. I’ve heard that students can work part-time, but the rules seem to change frequently. I don’t want to accidentally violate visa conditions. Clear guidance is important before I plan my finances.

Indian students can absolutely work in Australia while studying and it’s a great way to support living expenses and gain international work experience. As per current Australian student visa (subclass 500) regulations, international students are allowed to work up to 48 hours per fortnight (every two weeks) during their academic session. During scheduled breaks, such as semester holidays, students can work unlimited hours, which provides an excellent opportunity to earn more and manage expenses effectively.

It’s important to strictly follow these work limits, as exceeding the permitted hours can lead to visa complications or even cancellation. Students should also ensure their course has officially commenced before starting work. Most students find part-time roles in sectors like retail, hospitality, administration or customer service. Additionally, maintaining a balance between work and studies is essential, as academic performance remains the primary requirement of your student visa.
