I have heard that GSM visa approval depends heavily on points, but I am not sure how points are calculated for Nepali applicants. I want to know how my age, education, work experience and English scores can impact my eligibility. I feel overwhelmed by all the criteria and want clarity.
At Rozario Enterprises, we often guide Nepali applicants through Australia’s General Skilled Migration (GSM) system and the first thing to understand is that the points system is the same for all nationalities—including Nepal. Your eligibility depends on how many points you score across factors like age, English proficiency, education and work experience. To even apply, you must reach at least 65 points, but in reality, higher scores improve your chances of receiving an invitation.
When it comes to core scoring factors, age plays a major role—candidates between 25–32 years get the highest points (30), while points decrease as age increases. English proficiency is equally important: basic English gives 0 points, but achieving higher scores (like IELTS 7 or 8) can give you 10–20 points. Your educational qualifications also contribute significantly—Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees typically give 15 points, while a PhD can give 20.
Work experience is another key area, especially if it matches your nominated occupation. For overseas experience (which applies to most Nepali applicants), you can earn up to 15 points depending on years worked—more experience means more points. Additional points can come from partner skills, state nomination or special qualifications. In simple terms, the stronger your profile across all categories, the higher your total score—and the better your chances of successfully securing a GSM visa.
