Parent Visa (subclass 103)
Parent Visa
(subclass 103)
Allows parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents to live in Australia permanently. It is a more affordable option but comes with longer processing times and limited yearly placements.

Why Choose the Parent Visa Subclass 103?
The Subclass 103 Parent Visa offers permanent residency at a lower government fee compared to contributory options like the 143 or 173 visas. It is ideal for applicants who are not in a hurry to migrate but wish to eventually live permanently with their children in Australia.
Though processing can take many years (up to 30 years or more), this visa remains an important option for those looking for a long-term and budget-friendly migration plan.
Key Benefits of the Subclass 103 Visa
Permanent residency in Australia
Access to Australia’s public healthcare system (Medicare)
Eligibility to apply for Australian citizenship after meeting residency requirements
Sponsor other eligible family members for migration
Travel to and from Australia for five years from the visa grant date
Visa Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the Subclass 103 Parent Visa, applicants must:
Be a parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who has been settled in Australia for at least 2 years
Meet the Balance of Family Test (at least half of your children live lawfully in Australia or more of your children live in Australia than any other country)
Be sponsored by an eligible child or another approved sponsor
Meet health and character requirements
Have no outstanding debts to the Australian Government
Agree to an Assurance of Support, provided by the sponsoring child or a close family member
Health and Character Checks
All applicants (and dependent family members) must:
Undergo medical examinations
Provide police clearance certificates for countries where they’ve lived for 12 months or more over the past 10 years (from the age of 16)
Family Members You Can Include
Your application can include:
Your spouse or de facto partner
Dependent children or stepchildren
All included family members must meet health and character requirements.
Assurance of Support (AoS)
An Assurance of Support is required to show that you and your dependents will not rely on government financial assistance. This typically includes a financial bond and agreement to provide financial support for 10 years (2 years for some visa types).
Important Considerations
Long Processing Times: Due to annual caps and a long queue, wait times can exceed 20–30 years. Applicants must be prepared for long delays.
No Bridging Visa: If applying from within Australia, you may not be granted a Bridging Visa, which means you must hold a valid visa while waiting for the decision.
